Hello Families, Your Kindergarten child had an exciting day today! The children LOVED meeting Kevin Skarupa from WMUR news station. The children shared all that they learned over the last 2 months with Mr. Skarupa. As we thanked him for coming in, he said he was very impressed with the questions and knowledge the students demonstrated during his presentation. WAY TO GO MACS Kinder and 2nd grade friends!!!! Tomorrow morning (2/3/17) Mr. Skarupa will be talking about his visit to MACS on the 6:45 AM news! Below are some pictures from his presentation: Kindergarten Academics: Literacy: -Students are continuing to sound out words and blend them together. We practice reading CVC words daily and the students receive extra practice during center work on the tablets. In reading groups, we used our science knowledge to write about being meteorologists. Below are some examples that are posted outside out classroom and that Mr. Skarupka took video of! In addition, students are working on various writing pieces. They are sounding out the words they want to write and are using the classroom word wall to spell trick words. Please continue to add the trick words/sight words your child comes home weekly with to the AT HOME ring. Students have also been introduced to the PASSWORD to enter the classroom. Students must place their hand on the purple cut out and say the password correctly to enter the classroom. The password changed daily with only the trick words we have learned. Math: Students are working on building their fluency and stamina answering math addition facts. Today we celebrated Groundhog Day by completing roll and counting math worksheets. Tomorrow and next week we are spending time on subtraction. The students know what the sign looks like, but we will begin to build their subtraction fluency to 5 for the remainder of the school year. Kindergarten Enrichment Science: Today we wrap up our two month exploration of weather. We are so lucky to have a local meteorologist come and talk to use! The students will now begin to explore HIBERNATION :) Social Studies: This month we will learn about a few United States Presidents. -President Washington & President Lincoln MICRO: -Our Underwater Aquarium citizens determined they wanted to sell SLIME in our giftshop. Our managers looked up an easy recipe and over the weekend our facilitator mixed the ingrediants together. On Monday, students worked in groups to separate and package slime baggies. Our managers determined to sell the slime for $5 a bag. Classroom Announcements
