Dear Families, Just like that...Thanksgiving is just days away! Last week, the students and I spent a lot of time creating fun turkey math projects and listening to one another share about Thanksgiving plans. Coming up this week, Miss F has two fun filled days planed with a party and lots of Thanksgiving crafts! I look forward to having a relaxed few days of academic review and bonding with students before our break. Important Information: -Classroom Harvest Party 11/20/17 10-11 AM -Monday: Guidance -Tuesday: Music *Please send your child to school with appropriate outdoor gear to keep them warm! Kindergarten Academic Day Literacy: This week we spent time learning about capital letters E and R. We brainstormed various words that start with these letter sounds and noticed E was our final vowel we learned about. I shared with the students a vowel song that we will revisit several different times throughout the school year. Students have been recalling the important rule about vowels: every single word has at least one vowel in it. In Kindergarten, students only learn about short vowel sounds. In addition, students did an excellent job with their handwriting practice of these two letters this past week. In reading group, we did lots of work with letter tiles this week. We built CVC words (consonant vowel consonant) both as a group and individually. Students even received a chance to build their own CVC word. Click HERE for the Short Vowel Song! We had extra practice of number stories and Miss F even created a story about some of her students from this year. Mid week, students talked about place value and created a fantastic turkey using ten frames! These turkeys are currently hung up in the hallway. With some extra time, the children and I explored graphing more. On Friday, our class had a "10 Bean Spill" lesson, inquiring about different ways to make the number 10. The children and I had an extra activity of creating a turkey with red and yellow feathers that went home in backpacks at Friday dismissal. Kindergarten Enrichment Day Buddy Reading: Miss Froleiks and Miss Carideo's classes buddy read and continued to build relationships with one another through reading and literacy :) Science:
Weather, weather and MORE WEATHER! The students have become very excited to learn about various types of weather. From types of weather that are local to us, to extreme weather such as tornados and severe hurricanes. The children have begun to learn important weather tools and when we return from Thanksgiving Break, we will begin several projects to dive deeper into our exploration. Social Studies: More exploration into Needs and Wants for our community! Miss F is currently putting together an end of the unit donation project that will be announced after the return from Thanksgiving Break! We will continue to write about needs and wants in class using lots of detailed pictures. Micro: It was a busy week during our micro block! Our managers attended manager meetings as the rest of our business had our first reflection day and drew a picture that represented what they most look forward to about starting marketplace in a few weeks. In addition, as a venture we complied a list of materials we will need to purchase from the warehouse. *Currently, there are two items listed on our classroom wish list that we need for our micro venture (#4 and #5). If purchased and donated, our venture would be able to "purchase" those items from the warehouse using our businesses micro money. By the end of the week, our venture managers worked on creating important documents for our business such as W2's, Income Ledgers and Attendance/Payroll checklists. Comments are closed.
