FALL PARTY: I am thrilled to have all 20 of my students be able to celebrate our classroom fall party tomorrow at 1:30 PM. Jamie Tannariello has done a fabulous job of reaching out to parents and gathering supplies and volunteers for tomorrow! Thank you again Jamie :) This is NOT a Halloween party...therefore students SHOULD NOT COME TO SCHOOL WITH COSTUMES PLEASE! Weekly Happenings: in Regular Kindergarten Day Math -We finished up UNIT 2 and are now starting UNIT 3! Yahoo! We had a review day of many skill practices and games we have learned throughout the unit. Students enjoyed rotating through centers to play games using their DOT Cards, number stories with Miss Froleiks, shape recognition (circles & rectangles) and sorting activities. -Since moving to UNIT 3, students have been introduced to graphing using shapes and pattern blocks and using addition skills to make 10. Today (Thursday), students have been exposed to a new partner game called "Ten Bean Spill". Students have been playing it not only during math time today but also during some free time (recess & "Ketchup" time) which shows me high interest :) As a whole group, we went over ALL of the ways to make ten using addition. I was beyond proud of my Kindergartners!! Below are some pictures of students playing with partners during math today: Literacy -This weeks letters are capital D and S. We have been searching for students names that have these letters. We reference our picture cards that are above Miss Froleiks' whiteboard to remember both of their sounds. Below are the picture cue cards for you to see and potentially reference for at home use. Have a conversation with your child and ask them what the correct way to form either of these letters are. It would be great at home practice. (Letter D: "kiss the dot, big line down, pick up your pencil, kiss the dot, big curve")
(Letter S: "kiss the dot, little curve, little curve") Some of the literacy centers students have been working at are: finding rhyming pictures, practicing writing the letters D and S, searching for pictures that have the letter D sound at the beginning of them and playing KABOOM!! (ask your child what that game is!). Kindergarten Enrichment: Science: -Students are finishing up learning about BATS. We performed a poem/song for our book buddies in 2nd grade. They all loved it! Next month we will be learning about weather and pumpkins. Social Studies: -We have been talking about community helpers and specifically FIREFIGHTERS. We have a visit from the Nashua Fire Department tomorrow at 11 AM. We have come up with questions we want to ask and students are all thrilled to meet a firefighter. **Micro** -Students in the Kindergarten Enrichment program have been working on posters to put around the school to encourage Micro City members to come to our underwater aquarium venture. We are hoping to have our first Marketplace day soon. Today we will be brainstorming jobs for the Kindergartens to have within our Micro City venture. Kindergarten is still in search for donations of old/not used magazines to use at a literacy center. As well as, basic sponges for us to cut into shapes and use at a paint center. I want to THANK all parents for making sure their child wears sneakers on Monday for GYM with Mrs. Campbell! Everyone has been coming in with appropriate footwear :) Please remember to check your child's blue folder every night for work and return it school and home daily. Thanks so much!! -Miss Froleiks Comments are closed.
