Hola Families, What a fun filled week we had back at MACS! I enjoyed hearing all of the students stories and adventures from over April Vacation. In addition, I had a very special announcement to share with the class as well. Besides bringing our class mascot Hank and his friend Baby Dory on my vacation to Florida, Miss Froleiks & Miss Walchak made sure to document our fun week! Below are some pictures from our trip: In addition, Miss Froleiks got engaged while down in Disney. I was extremely excited to come back and share the news with my Kindergarten class. At the start of the week, Miss Froleiks put together a PowerPoint full of pictures and then read a story called: Congratulations Miss Malarkey! The students then guessed what Miss Froleiks' exciting news was. Important News & Updates: *Student Treasure Books were delivered and sent home at the start of the week. *If your child ordered books from the Scholastic Book Club, they were delivered and went home on Monday afternoon! *May Scholastic Book Orders went home this week and this will be THE LAST BOOK ORDER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR! Students were given a coupon for a free book that everyone should take advantage of! Kindergarten Academic Day: Literacy: Before break, your child began to learn about digraphs in class. We have continued to read and write with digraphs in several of our center rotations. The main digraphs we have been talking about are: th, sh, wh, ch, ph and ck. Students are doing a great job remembering when they see these two letters together that they make one sound. Below is a link to a song we watch and sing daily on our projector! Digraph Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK8_Tvu6bJk Math: It is so hard to believe we are almost done our our second manual of Everyday Math! Several of our lessons are continually spiraling back around from the first trimester. Students are often found practicing their math facts in several different ways in my classroom. XtraMath, worksheets, whiteboard problems and whole class math practice games are rotated out throughout the whole week. At times, students work independently to retrieve a math fact answer or they can work with partners or the whole class. Other topics are covered this week are: -2D/3D shape sorting -Counting to 100 clearly and in a timely manner -Interrupting Counting (counting from different starting and ending points) -Talking about TIME in seconds -Mystery Blocks (using describing words) Extended Kindergarten School Day Science: In science, we have continued our physical science unit on the three states of matter. We have been reading books, listening to songs and completing hands on activities and worksheets. Students have loved discovering how matter can change from one form to another. Click to watch the: Matter Song Social Studies: In social studies, students have continued talking about symbols. We have brainstormed different symbols for our country such as the Bald Eagle, American Flag, Statue of Liberty and the White House. We have been watching several videos and reading many books on these American symbols. HERE is a strand of videos we have been watching throughout the week! Other Happenings: Miss Froleiks was surprised on Friday when 2 parents "kicked" Miss F out of the Kindergarten room and put together a special craft with all of the children. After an hour of hard work, students put on an Engagement Party with a fantastic wedding planning binder! They drew fabulous pictures, signed a Disney themed card and we celebrated with a cake! My students couldn't possibly be any more precious! Below are some pictures from the party :-) Comments are closed.
