Hello Parents! What a week it has been! Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who have helped this week at the Scholastic book fair. My Kindergarten students have LOVED going to pick out books and buying them with money. REMINDER: the book fair will be open until Tuesday evening. Parents, you are welcomed to buy books from the book fair before or after your conference time :) Today: LITERACY: -Students were read aloud Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. Today's lesson was about alliterations. Students were able to identify alliterations throughout the book and even gave me a thumb up/thumbs down when I said silly ones aloud such as: "Christopher's Crazy Car" or "Samantha's Sizzling Soup". -Kinder friends also continued to work on the letter R and letter E. So many students have come in mentioning they are practicing their letter names and sounds at home and I couldn't be more proud! Way to go kiddos :) MATH: -On Thursday and Friday, students talked about different ways to represent a number. Some strategies were: tally marks, drawing a picture, using a ten frame, making dots, writing the number word etc. Below are some pictures from today's extra practice: KINDERGARTEN ENRICHMENT: Computer Lab: -After lunch and 2nd recess, students were brought to our schools computer lab. Children were able to learn about the different parts of the computer such as a screen and mouse. After some specific direction following, many of the kindergartners had a chance to play on ABCYA for a few minutes. This website is a great at home resource you can all use to reinforce letter and number skills. Here is the link: http://www.abcya.com/ Science: -As a class, students worked on completing a life cycle of a pumpkin worksheet. Many students collaborated together and compared the life cycle of an apple to think about the different stages of a pumpkin. Below is one students PHENOMENAL work that made it up on the crab wall today :) Micro:
-Today Miss Froleiks met with Kindergarten Micro Mentors to discuss some details of our venture. The 3 of us finalized what each students job is within our venture and which day they will have as a day off. During their "DAY OFF" students will be able to visit and participate in other ventures as long as they have enough MICRO MONEY to get into the venture or pay for something they want to buy such as a drink from The Refresher. We are hoping to open up Marketplace after next week....so stay tuned :) ALL STUDENTS received two Scholastic News sheets. The DUE DATE to make a purchase either online or turn in a check and form is: TUESDAY NOVEMBER 22nd, 2016. DONORS CHOOSE PROJECT: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/the-whole-world-is-just-a-touch-away/2308729/ Also here is the link to my Donors Choose Page. My project is still pending approval, however you CAN STILL DONATE. I let the students know about my goal for this project and why they had a permission slip go home on Thursday night. Thank you to the parents who got those back quickly and to even one family who already donated themselves :) A second slip went home for a few students who didn't return one this morning. If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Enjoy your weekend with your family! I look forward to seeing the kiddos on Monday and parents on Tuesday for conferences :) -Miss Froleiks Comments are closed.
