Season’s Greetings Kinder Families, It has been a crazy return to school ever since Thanksgiving break. I hope that all of you are enjoying the holiday season and the beautiful snow fall we have had! We have been extremely busy in Kindergarten learning new skills and practicing old ones from the start of the school year! Since we have had snow within the last day, I want to put out a reminder in regards to SNOW GEAR! All of this gear is extremely important in order for your son/daughter to be safe outside and when they return inside. Please send your child to school with the following snow gear: -Snow pants -Snow boots -Heavy Jacket -Gloves/Mittens -Hat/Earmuffs -**Indoor Shoes such as sneakers, ballet flats, UGGs etc. Literacy: We are officially on our last two capital letters of the alphabet...Z and Q (QU). Students will be learning about their sounds, letter formation process and handwriting practice. Letter Z will be taught on Tuesday (thanks to the snow day...I hope you all enjoyed it) and we will have a very special wedding ceremony on Wednesday for letters Q and U. All students will be invited to a mock wedding and will see how Q and U are ALWAYS WITH ONE ANOTHER. On Thursday, the students will continue to explore and practice skills within sentence structure. Math: We will be finishing up Unit 4 in our Volume One Everyday Math kit. Students will be investigating weight, capacity, counting by 1's/5's/10's and creating shapes out of yarn. Next week, I will be reviewing some of the material from the unit and give additional practice opportunities and extension opportunities. Continue to practice sequencing numbers with your child as well as utilizing activities that develop your son/daughters fluency up to 10 of subtraction and addition. Kindergarten Enrichment: Science: During the months of December and January, students are learning about weather! They are exploring types of weather and weather instruments. Students have been sharing lots of personal experience during this time as well! Social Studies: We are still in Unit 2 and are learning about different community helpers as well as different types of celebrations. Throughout our whole school day, students will be learning about different holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Below are some pictures from various educational activities we have participated in during the last few weeks. Our MICRO venture is doing very well and all students seem to enjoy their MICRO job!
